The first phase restored the tilework and brickwork of the northern iwan.
The first phase of restoring the Ganjali Khan caravanserai was completed after eight months of work by Kermani master builders. Worn bricks of the northern iwan were replaced with hand-made bricks of the same size and the geometric tiles were rebuilt in their original colours.
Method
Before any intervention every tile pattern was documented and numbered so the original design could return intact. Traditional mortars were sourced locally.
The second phase — the eastern chambers and the courtyard — begins next spring. A full cost report will be published in the trusteeship record.
